Pōkeno Whisky Company, founded in 2017 by Matt and Céline Johns, aims to put Aotearoa New Zealand on the map for world-class single malts. Situated in Pōkeno, south of Auckland, the distillery leverages pure spring water, locally sourced barley, and a commitment to quality over quantity. Head Distiller Rohan McGowan’s slow fermentation and double distillation process results in a rich, fruity spirit with a malty base. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and an in-house cooperage, Pōkeno produces whisky matured in ex-Bourbon, Sherry, and local red wine casks, establishing itself as New Zealand’s largest whisky distillery.
