The site of this Scorpo Old Cherry Orchard Pinot was originally Paul's orchard, which produced a lot of excellent quality fruit. So he removed all of that and put in a high-density planting of Pinot Noir. And what a great idea that was. This is a subtle and tightly packed wine that shows itself slowly. The evolution in the glass, and over several nights is something to behold. Lots of red fruits, a touch of rind, a touch sour but fresh and floral too. The palate is seamless and smooth, with fruit weight building gradually.
Chuck it in a decanter now or leave it for 7 plus years.
I may be showing my age just a bit to say I remember when Scorpo burst onto the scene. They had a good team from day one and their Pinot Gris was hands down the best in Australia. Having tried it recently, it may still be! They have expanded their offerings and have improved their wines significantly since those early days.
