Vinea Marson’s raison d’être and the catalyst for winemaker Mario Marson's departure from the Yarra Valley for Heathcote’s red soils, sangiovese has become central to our story, finding a natural and abundant home in the vineyards of our estate at the foot of the Mount Camel Range. Vinea Marson’s Italianate style is evident in this latest release from the 2019 vintage, with a plethora of cherries – maraschino, black and red asserting themselves on the nose. Accompanied by an enticing tarriness, Italian amaro character, spicy oak and dark cocoa powder, this complex nose exhibits variety typicity. The palate is bright and more fruit driven than the nose – with pretty & generous flavours of cherry and redcurrent grading to dried herbs, chocolate and cherry oak followed by a lick of sweet vanilla. Firm but well integrated tannins coated by the juicy mouthfeel, a long finish is replete with an alluring orange bitterness. A wine to enjoy now or age for 10+ years. - Vinea Marson

"Boasts a distinctive Italian-Australian personality, one that is ripe and sweet-fruited but also savoury and very much down to earth (literally!). Black cherry, roasted plums, thyme, sage, vanillin oak and earth bring an aromatic mix of dark fruits, herbs and gently spiced oak to this attractive, medium-bodied sangiovese. It's bright, too, with the grape's natural acidity and savoury tannins coming into play to lift and beautifully define the 5-year-old wine." - Jeni Port, Wine Companion 2024
