Whistling Eagle “Eagle’s Blood” Shiraz 2020 is Heathcote at its finest.
Grown on ancient Cambrian soils in Heathcote and crafted by winemaker Ian Rathjen, this flagship Shiraz displays spectacular colour, depth, and balance. It’s made with minimal intervention, fermented traditionally, and matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new), capturing the essence of its unique site.
This full-bodied Shiraz pours deep purple-black and offers plush aromatics of ripe blackberry, dark plum, liquorice, and black cherry, intertwined with vanillin cedar, fennel, and peppered earth. The palate is rich and textured, featuring opulent dark fruit framed by mocha, spice, and velvety tannins, finishing long and elegantly structured.
Critically acclaimed and cellar-worthy, the 2020 vintage earned 96 points from Halliday’s James Halliday, praised as “outstanding,” with a drinking window extending through 2038 .
Pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, slow-cooked lamb, charcuterie, aged cheddar, or dark chocolate desserts
Halliday Wine Companion - 96 Points
One sniff and you are standing on the mineral-rich soils of Heathcote, surrounded by the warm, inviting scents of the local bush. This is an evocative wine, of the place, of the dirt, capturing both the natural generosity of Heathcote shiraz and its environment beautifully, artfully. Earth, bush mint, undergrowth, acacia, briar, cassis, black cherry, anise and red licorice join forces with well-mannered oak to seduce. Seduction complete. Jeni Port
