Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 750ml

$159.99
Iconic Coonawarra Cabernet with cassis, blackberry, cedar, mint and a long, finely structured finish. About The Wine Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is a flagship Coonawarra Cabernet made from hand selected estate fruit grown on terra rossa soils. The 2012 vintage is a powerful yet beautifully composed release, showing classic blackcurrant driven Cabernet character, layered savoury detail and the kind of structure that has made John Riddoch one of Australia’s benchmark cellar worthy Cabernets. With more than a decade of bottle age, it is entering a superb drinking window while still holding ample depth for further development. Halliday Wine Companion - 97 Points  The depth of its purple crimson hue telegraphs an ultra powerful wine of impeccable breed and balance, needing a minimum of 10 years to relax. In wine terms, the case to delay its release to coincide with that of Grange is obvious, but in financial terms it simply won't happen. A great John Riddoch in the making. James Halliday Tasting Notes Aroma: Cassis, blackberry, cedar, mint, violets and subtle dark spice. Palate: Concentrated and elegant, with dense black fruit, fine acidity, polished oak and a firm, beautifully balanced Cabernet frame. Finish: Long, structured and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, savoury cedar and fine-grained tannins. Serving Suggestions A superb match for roast beef, grilled ribeye, slow-cooked lamb, venison or aged hard cheeses. About the Winery / Prod ucer / Region Wynns Coonawarra Estate is one of the defining names of Australian Cabernet. John Riddoch is the estate’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, first released in 1982 and named in honour of Wynns’ founder. It is produced in small quantities from the most exceptional estate Cabernet fruit, all grown in Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa soils, and has become one of the country’s most recognisable collector wines. Cellaring Potential Drinking beautifully now, but still with the structure and balance to reward further careful cellaring over the medium term. Published commentary on the 2012 vintage noted it needed at least 10 years to relax, which aligns well with its current stage of development. Collector’s Note A highly relevant collector release, the 2012 vintage attracted major critical praise, including 97 points from Halliday and 97 points from The Real Review.
